12/12/2023 0 Comments Mini cooper wiring loom![]() They kept the car for a week and it cost me £460 (no charge for diagnostics) which, given the mileage, was painful but not as painful at the £3,000 it would have cost without BMW contributing! So all in all I'm a little frustrated at having to stump up the cash but very happy with the way Coopers handled the problem and they've done a great job on the repair - no rattles, damage or misaligned panels. BMW came back 2 days later and said, as with others, that they would pay for 100% of the parts and 80% of the labour which I agreed to. The dealership (Coopers in Cobham) informed me that it was due to water ingress and that it would be a 3 or 4 day fix but they would contact BMW to see if they would cover the cost. My 2015 Cooper S (with only 2,300 miles on the clock!) was giving the pedestrian warning system fault and parking light fault messages. Hi All - just thought I'd share my recent experience with the same issue. I asked about preventing the same issue in the future and, as the post above suggests, I was told MINI has re-designed the harness so this shouldn't be repeated. I get it back Tuesday/Wednesday next week so am hoping for a tight car again. The only cost to me is the £99+VAT diagnostic charge. They advised a 14 hour labour job, although they had the part so could start immediately but would have to fit the repair around other cars coming in for regular services etc.at a cost of £2700! The dealer (Marshalls in Hook, Hants) discussed it with MINI UK and they have agreed to pay 100% parts and Labour. Having read several internet threads I guessed it would be this issue. After it made no difference they called me back sited an ingress of water on part of the loom and a complete new wiring harness was required. The dealer tried to fix the fault with a new NSF headlight. Obviously out of warranty and about a month short of 5 years old. Hi all, Newbie to this particular forum but as my wifes 2015 Cooper S (33k miles) went in the other day for the Vertical Headlight error, I thought I'd share and give you hope. The dealer also is waiving the £160 diagnostic charge. So if anyone else has this issue definitely go down this route, if BMW say no knowing the success stories definitely makes a difference so they can't really treat anyone differently assuming your car has been serviced properly etc (this seemed important!). Still not ideal given the nature of the issue but pretty happy with this outcome and they guarantee the work for 2 years as it's contributed for by me. Bit of an anxious wait and waiting for a fight (BMW themselves told me it was not guaranteed to be successful, so I may pay main dealer diagnostic charge for nothing at £160!) - but just found out today BMW approved 100% of parts and 80% labour, so looking at max £600 in total to repair. Original diagnosis was an independent, they advised me to read up online and speak to BMW, I had to get it diagnosed at a main dealer as only they can properly apply to BMW for goodwill. I have relatively low mileage (just clocked 40k) so maybe it took a bit longer for it to happen! Had stabilization warning and when diagnosed apparently there were also brake fluid warnings. I had the same issue with my 14 plate Mini Cooper S. If anyone knows differently or can point us at a fitting guide / reliably accurate schematic etc I would be delighted to be proved wrong on this.Wanted to share another success story, I also posted this on on a similar thread. However it would only be the very start of your journey not, I fear, anywhere close to the end. ![]() Basically the chances of me finding a loom which matches my car's particular option pack appear astronomically unlikely! And that's before we get into signalling for the amp to power on from the car and so on.ĭepending on what was included for that £400 (amp, front A-pillars, rear diffusers, all tweeters & drivers?) then £400 doesn't sound unreasonable to me. But details are sketchy to begin with and when I read that I could be facing different wiring situations depending on whether the car has heated wing mirrors, sat-nav, heated seats yada yada it suddenly becomes an impossibility (for me anyway). If there was just "an R56 loom" with a reliable schematic I'd probably take it on. What's stopping me from investigating things myself is comments on forums about how different the Mini loom can be, depending on which options the car came with. He was happy to do the work but accepts that it would take a couple of days and quoted £600+vat. I made contact with a specialist installer (i.e not Halfords, but someone who isn't afraid of adapting looms, knows CAN-bus inside out and has retro-fitted audio gear into Minis & BMWs). In the "good old days" with cars I'd happily fit or upgrade head-units, amps & speakers all day long, but there were just too many unknowns and variables for me to figure out.
